Poem

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

I chose this poem because it is one of my favorites. It is one of my favorite poems because I love the idea of individualism shown in this piece.

"It is difficult to get the news from poetry, yet men die miserably everyday for lack of what is found there"-William Carlos Williams

I think this quote means that poetry can be as hard to get as someone's death. We need more poetry than hardcore facts. We need to enjoy poetry because it is an unbelievable type of writing. News is ok, but symbolism in poetry and poetry itself is so motivating and inspiring.

Success looking back at age 40

Let's say I am 40 years old. How am I going to determine that my life so far has ben successful. Obviously I would like to have a job that I enjoy doing, but also I would like to have a family. Looking back on life, it will be considered successful if I have no regrets on what I have done so far. The goals that I want to reach are attainable, and I believe that I can achieve them.

"Describe This...."

They are essential for transportation, however they can be quite expensive. This object is as tough as people are willing to pay for. Quality matters, and surely its recipients will be thankful for that. There are many different styles, companies, and purposes, so which of these choices are right for you?

Short Stories

Both the short stories, "Cathedral" and "Every Day Use", share many similarities within their plots.  The Cathedral is about a blind man who comes to visit an old friend who  had helped him in the past. The husband comes to see what it is like to be blind when he bonds with the blind man. "Every Day Use" is about a mother and her two daughters, Dee and Matty. Dee is very materialistic and does not respect her family in general. She leaves the family and comes back with a man and suddenly changes her attitude toward her family. First, both stories include a protagonist who goes through drastic change during the story. In "Cathedral", the main character is the husband, and he negatively comments about his wife's relationship with the blind man. Similarly, in "Every Day Use", The mother's witnesses her daughter's differences (Dee and Maggie). Both stories reflect on relationships between characters and their personalities. The blind man allows the wife to "lighten up" and enjoy herself. In "Every Day Use", it seems life Maggie goes through a transformation and finally stands up to her "superior" and more educated sister.
After reading both stories, I enjoyed reading "Cathedral" the most. The author of this short story created a more interesting plot with more interesting characters. The symbolism in this short story really supported its thesis, and it was a great read.

Inauguration

This is a historic day, because this is the first black president ever to be sworn into office. I am excited to see what his first term will bring for our country. Hopefully he can prevent our economy from getting worse, but what is most important is that he gets us out of this mess. I wish the president good luck, and I am going to support him 100 percent.
