Bread Givers
I think Bread Givers is a great book, because it uses themes that apply to not only their time but the "new world" as well. The ideas of respect and ignorance go a long way in this novel and whether or not a patriarchy is the right way to live. Independence is also vital, especially for Sara because she is the first to express her opinions against her controlling father. She didn't settle for the minimum like Bessie and Mashah did, but she is out on her own trying to create a successful life.
